James “Jim” Scott Fletcher, was born June 3, 1947, in Fort Smith, Arkansas, to Woodrow Elmer Fletcher and Velma Jean Hanan (Fletcher). Jim went home to his Heavenly Father July 30, 2014, in Westerville, Ohio. He was preceded death by his mother and father. He is survived by his daughters, Sarai Jean Fletcher of Norman, Oklahoma, and Courtney Lynn Fletcher of Mt. Vernon, Ohio, his sister, Valery Lee Fletcher of Boulder, Colorado, and brother, Woodrow Elmer Fletcher Jr. of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma, nieces, Emily Elizabeth Copeland of Pryor, Oklahoma, and Ruth Vaughn Landrum of Ada, Oklahoma, nephews Mark Andrew Fletcher and David Thomas Fletcher of Tulsa, Oklahoma. Jim spent his growing up years in Tulsa, Oklahoma, where he graduated from Will Rogers High School in 1966. He received a wrestling scholarship to Oklahoma State University where he took a few classes before accepting a job with the North American Rockwell Corporation for whom he worked many years. Jim was a member of the National Management Association; his last position at Rockwell was as a supervisor for the task team responsible for the final assembly of a wing section of the B1B bomber. Jim was also a member of the team involved in the successful mission of the Apollo 11 spacecraft to the moon. Following this career, Jim established the Fletcher Home Improvements business. Jim loved the Lord Jesus and was a faithful member and prayer warrior of the Powell Grace Brethren Church. He deeply appreciated the outdoors, marveling in the beauty created by the Lord. Jim was a well-known and liked member of the uptown Westerville & Otterbein community. He had a passion for raising and training pedigreed German Shepherd Dogs; many will remember Jim walking his beloved Klaire, along with his daughter’s German Shepherd, Urman, down State Street every day, “...stopping for biscuits at DJ’s Feed Store.” Many residents of uptown Westerville will also remember that upon the death of Klaire, the community gifted Jim with Benjamin, “…a 20-week old, gangly, 44 pound American shepherd.” Jim quickly learned to love this “special little guy” even if he wasn’t pedigreed or German. A memorial service will be held at 11 am Saturday, August 9, 2014 at the Powell Grace Brethren Church, 7600 Liberty Rd., Powell, OH 43065 with visitation 1 hour prior to the time of service.
