Jane Carol Catlin nee Schmidt age 87, born on July 15, 1929 in Hackensack, New Jersey, passed away on Friday, March 3, 2017 in Columbus, Ohio. Jane was preceded in death by her husband of 48 years, John England “Jack” Catlin Jr., parents George Joseph Schmidt and Elizabeth Josephine Staib, and younger brother George Schmidt. Left to cherish her memory are sons, John England (Carol) Catlin III of Dublin, and George Norman (Charlotte) Catlin of Grove City. Also mourning her loss are grandchildren, Jennifer Ann Catlin, Elizabeth (Joseph) Noland, Phillip George Catlin, Alan Christopher Catlin and great-grandchildren Patrick John Noland and Brittney Carol Noland. Jane Carol Schmidt grew up a Jersey girl, graduating from Bogota High School Class of 1947 however she left the state to attend Georgia Wesleyan College in Macon, Georgia and then later New York University where she earned her BA in Art Education. She also met and married VMI cadet John England Catlin Jr. on June 15, 1951. She accompanied her Air Force husband on his assignments that had her living in Oklahoma, New Mexico, Spain, Virginia, Ohio, Germany, and Nebraska. Retirement had her living on a sail boat for several years sailing up and down the east coast of the United States and Caribbean with her husband. Jane had eclectic passions. She was employed in both Virginia & Dayton as an art educator. Jane was an accomplished artist who could turn anything into art. In retirement she had her own art shows in Florida. She was always reaching to grow and learn as both a global traveler and a passionate cook as she attended a French Cooking School while living in Germany. Retirement kept her living in Annapolis, Maryland, Fort Lauderdale, Florida and later Columbus, Ohio where she resided at the Brookdale, Trillium Crossing facility. Our deepest level of appreciation goes out to the third floor, hospice care, at Dublin Methodist Hospital, Dublin, Ohio. A celebration of life will be held at Brookdale at 3500 Trillium Crossing, Columbus, Ohio on Friday, March 10th 2017 at 11:00 a.m. until noon followed by a wake at the Catlin residence in Dublin.
