Jane Slone, age 83, of Columbus, passed away peacefully on September 13, 2023. She was born on May 2, 1940, to Baurnum and Lilly (Mollett) Cassady.
Jane grew up in Inez, KY and graduated from Inez High School, where she was a cheerleader. She attended Trevecca Nazarene University in Nashville, TN. She moved to Columbus with her family in 1959, and began working for the telephone company. She met the love of her life, Ralph, through a mutual friend and they married on July 18, 1964.
Jane felt her greatest accomplishment in life was her children and grandchildren. She spent her years focused on raising her children, while working at the Columbus Board of Education and then Peoples Travel. One of her favorite jobs was working for Lazarus (later Macy's) in the bridal registry department.
She kept a home filled with unconditional love for her family and anyone who walked through her doors. She was loved by everyone but especially by all the kids who referred to her as their “Nana” too! Jane was a wonderful cook and loved to host family dinners. Her kind spirit and gentle heart made everyone she encountered feel loved and valued. But like most red heads, her friends and family often described her as sassy, spunky, and vibrant. A quality she displayed when cheering on her Cincinnati Reds and Kentucky Wildcats.
As a longtime member of Wilson Avenue Church of the Nazarene, Jane loved singing in the choir, eventually serving as choir director. She loved gospel music.
After a life of hard work, sacrifice, devotion to her family and friends, and following the Lord, Jane is now in His loving arms and He has no doubt rewarded her by saying, “Well done, my child.”
She is survived by her loving husband of 59 years, Ralph Slone; her children Tonya (Kevin) Perkins, and Ed (Susan) Slone; grandchildren Slone and Sydney Perkins, and Elizabeth Broyles; brother Baurnum (Sharon) Cassady; sister Jill Warden, and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, Jane’s brothers, Jack Cassady, Tom Cassady, and John Cassady, proceeded her in death.
