Janis Hughes

Ulma Janis Van Houten Hughes, age 89, of Hilliard, Ohio passed away at Kobacker House on July 6, 2018, surrounded by her loving family. She was preceded in death by her husband of 65 years, Wilbert (Bill) A. Hughes, Jr., her parents, Andrew and Ulma (Leppert) Van Houten, and her six siblings. Jan is survived by son Kenton Hughes, daughter Melinda (Mark) Tomasevich, daughter Rebecca (Bill) Parsons, grandchildren John (Laura) Tomasevich, Hayley (Maurice) Hughes, Anne (Caleb) Tomasevich, Taylor Parsons, Caelin Parsons, Colton Hughes, Nathan Hughes, and great-grandaughter Ella Tomasevich. Jan was born on November 17, 1928 in Hilliard, Ohio and graduated from Hilliard High School in 1946. She graduated from the Ohio State University in 1950 with a degree as a registered nurse. While at OSU she met Bill, and they married on December 18, 1949. Jan worked as a public health and hospital nurse, and in 1967, began a career as a school nurse, with the Columbus Public Schools. She retired after 20 years of service at many different schools, including Central High School. She and Bill enjoyed several trips across the US and Europe. They both loved to dance and took ballroom dancing lessons for many years. Friends may call TUESDAY from 6-8 PM at the TIDD FAMILY FUNERAL HOME, 5265 Norwich St., Hilliard, OH, 43026 where her funeral service will be held 10 AM on WEDNESDAY, JULY 11, 2018, and a private burial at a later date at Wesley Chapel Cemetery.
