Jerry Kastengren, age 59, was taken to the Lord suddenly, November 16, 2010.
At the time of his passing, Jerry worked for the Hilliard City Schools. Jerry was an active member of the Christian community where he served on various church boards. He also participated in the Greater Columbus Emmaus Community for many years, serving as their Community Lay Director for four years.
He is survived by his wife Nancy and son Scott, daughter-in-law Olympia, and precious grandson and special buddy Noah A.J. Kastengren of Portland, OR; and his son Gregg Kastengren of Columbus, OH. He also sadly leaves behind his mother, Isabel of Cherokee, IA; sisters, Janice (Jim) Johnson of Des Moines, IA; JoAnne (Jeff) Hirschman of Alta, IA; Jean (Dennis) Correll, Medford, MN; sister-in-law Cookie (Jerry) Cranston of Johnston, IA; and brother-in-law Dennis (Kathryn) Thompson of Aledo, TX. He is also survived by numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews. Jerry’s close and special friends, too numerous to name, will sadly miss the selfless Christian brother who so generously touched their lives in multiple ways. All who knew Jerry will remember him as a beloved child of the Living Lord who had a smile, a helping hand and words of encouragement for every person he met.
Jerry was preceded in death by his father, Joseph Kastengren; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Archie and Martha Thompson; grandparents Joseph Sr. and Hulda Kastengren and Earl and Florence Zwick; and infant nephew Cecil Cranston.
Visitation with the family will be held from 5:30-7:00 p.m. at Northwest Chapel, 6700 Rings Road, Dublin, OH on Monday, November 22. A Home-Going and Celebration of Life for Jerry Kastengren will follow at Northwest Chapel at 7:00 p.m. Burial will take place at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Northwest Chapel, Beacon Elementary, Hilliard City Schools or The American Heart Association.
