Joan R. McElheny

Joan McElheny, age 93, of Hilliard, Ohio passed away on Saturday, February 17,

2024 at Carriage Senior Center in Hilliard, Ohio.  Born in Columbus, Ohio on

February 18, 1930 to the late Ralph and Ann Root, she was a high school

graduate of North High School.  She met Norman at Heidelberg College and

followed him to Hilliard where they were married on August 5, 1950.  She

received her BA degree in Education at OSU and it was followed by her MA

degree, also from The Ohio State University.  Joan was a 3rd grade teacher and

retired as the curriculum director for the Hilliard School District.  Active in her

community, Joan served as a member of the Hilliard Art Council, was a

member of the Central Ohio Water Color Society and was an accomplished

watercolor artist.  You can find her pictures in the homes of her family and

friends.  Joan and Mac were active members of Hilliard United Methodist

Church.  

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Norm "Mac" 

McElheny, her infant son James, her brother Ralph, her-sister-in law Joyce 

McElheny, her sister and brother-in-law Audrey and Norm Mosier and brother-

in-law John Stiffler.  She is survived by her children, John (Julie) McElheny, 

Robert (Nancy) Stephen; her grandchildren, Christopher, Matthew (Bethany), 

Tiffani, Cara Reese, Suzanne (Gregory Stevenson) McElheny and Nickolas (Sara); 

great-grandchildren, Ian, Caleb, Alison, Alban, Juliet, Jack, Zane, Trey, Lincoln, 

Lilliana and Audrey; sister Virginia Stiffler and her family, sister-in-law, 

Kathy Root and her family; Audrey Mosier’s family and many friends.

The family will receive friends at Tidd Funeral Home, 5265 Norwich St. Hilliard, 

OH on Friday, February 23. Visitation from 11:30 to 1:30 with a service at 1:30. 

Burial will follow at Wesley Chapel Cemetery.
