Joe B. Bailey, Jr.

Joe B. Bailey, Jr., age 84, of Columbus, Ohio, and formerly of Lexington, North Carolina, passed away peacefully on November 19, 2024.

Joe was a proud graduate of Appalachian State University, Class of 1962, where he excelled as a member of both the football (co-captain 1961) and wrestling teams. Joe dedicated over two decades of his career to Franklin County as a code inspector before retiring, and previously served as Managing Director of the Ohio Hardware Association for 14 years. Prior to moving to Columbus, Joe managed the Chamber of Commerce for several cities in the Midwest.

A 32nd Degree Mason, Joe was a passionate supporter of Ohio State football and wrestling, cheering on his teams with unwavering enthusiasm.

Joe was preceded in death by his parents, Joe Bernan and Grace Byerly Bailey; sister, Libby Sink; and brother, Robert Bailey. Joe is survived by his loving wife of 30 years, Sherry Bailey; his children, Joe (Erin) Bailey III, Lara Pritchett, George (Tahsha) Harmon, and Marla (Eric) Best; brother, Bill (Janie) Bailey; former wife, Mira (Jerry) Allen; 16 grandchildren; 6 great-grandchildren; his faithful canine companion, Shadow; and many beloved relatives and friends.

The family would like to extend heartfelt gratitude to Willow Brook Christian Home and Capital City Hospice for their exceptional care, Tom Johnson, Willow Brook Chaplain Assistant, as well as the many friends who visited and supported Joe during his final days.

Family and friends are invited to a visitation on Tuesday, November 26, 2024, from 5:00 to 6:30 PM, at TIDD FUNERAL HOME, 5265 Norwich Street, Hilliard, Ohio, 43026, with a brief service at 6:30 PM.
