John "Jack" Baumeister

John “Jack” Baumeister, 84, passed away Saturday, January 27 at his home in Hilliard, Ohio. He was born February 28, 1933 in Cleveland, Ohio the son of John Joseph and Catherine Baumeister. Jack was a 1951 graduate of Fairview Park High School. He served in the U.S. Air Force and then received a Bachelor’s Degree from The Ohio State University in 1959 on the G.I. Bill. Jack began his career with the Ohio Department of Juvenile Justice, as a field counselor. He then went on to earn a Master’s Degree in Social Work from The University of Louisville in 1962, where he was the Fraternity Coordinator for seven undergraduate fraternities. From there, he moved to Columbus as a Maximum Security Officer for the juvenile treatment institute of Central Ohio. He later became the Superintendent of TICO, another maximum security facility for troubled youth. Jack’s career included being a Director for Franklin County Children’s Services and serving in various executive and director positions for Rosemont, a Columbus based juvenile treatment center. Jack spent his entire career working with “At Risk” and troubled children.  Jack was a member of St. Brendan’s Catholic Church in Hilliard, Ohio. He was an avid cyclist, enjoyed sailing, traveling and spending time with family and friends. He was a great father. His children and grandchildren were his pride and joy. Jack is survived by daughters Cathi Elliott of Hilliard, OH, Debbie Crecelius (Dave) of Delaware, OH, a son J. (Colleen) Baumeister of Delaware, OH, and Daughter Lisa Koch (Jay) of Lebanon, OH. Nine grandchildren Benjamin Elliott, Will and Joey Crecelius, Max, Garret (Holly), and Pete Monast, Alec, Elizabeth and Kyle Koch. He is also survived by Brother Harold (Cynthia) Baumeister, and many nieces and nephews. He was loved and will be greatly missed. Jack was preceded in death by his parents, John and Catherine, brothers Alfred and Sean. Family and friends may call THURSDAY, FEBRUARY 1st, from 2:00-4:00 & 6:00-8:00 p.m. at TIDD FAMILY FUNERAL HOME, 5265 Norwich Street, Hilliard, OH 43026 (614)-876-1722. His Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 11:00a.m. FRIDAY, FEBRUARY 2, 2018. at ST. BRENDAN THE NAVIGATOR CATHOLIC CHURCH, 4475 Dublin Road, Hilliard, OH 43026 with Fr. Bob Penhallurick, Celebrant. Jack’s family will observe his burial service at 12:00Noon SATURDAY, FEBRUARY 3, 2018 at Holy Cross Cemetery in Cleveland, Ohio.In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Jack’s name to the Alzheimer’s Association, Central Ohio Chapter, 1379 Dublin Road, Columbus, OH 43215 www.alz.org.
