John Edward McConnell

John Edward "Ed" McConnell (68), of Hilliard, OH passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, May 6, 2023.  John was born in Columbus, OH on July 25, 1954 to Robert “Mac” and Louise (Mutzner) McConnell. John was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his beloved wife of 26 years, Angela (Reeder) McConnell; his stepson, Jonathan (Ginnie) Hickey; his grandchildren, Jonathan II, Jaylah, Jenavieve and Janelle; his sister Sheryl (Terry) Morris, sister-in-law Heidi (Trey) Quelette and brother-in-law Bryan (Carol) Reeder; his nieces Kathy (Ed) Grannon and Stephanie (Bob) Hull; his nephews Rob (Faith) Morris and Sebastian (Sara) Downs, his Godsons Nick (Megan) Scolieri and Ben Scolieri, along with many other family members and dear friends that are too numerous to count. You know who you are, and he loved you immensely.

John was a career sheet metal construction worker, in partnership with the Local 98, at Kirk Williams Company.  He was all thing cars.  He passionately raced his beloved 1970 Nova with the U.M.T.R. (United Manual Transmission Racers) drag racing circuit and he cherished his vast racing family.  He loved building and repairing cars in his meticulously kept garage.  He also enjoyed rock & roll music and listening to the blues. Countless friends have stated how much they will miss their conversations with him about music.

John was a friend to everyone and didn't know a stranger. He was outgoing and enjoyed life to the fullest.  John was funny and ornery. He had a tender spirit and a giving nature, always lending a hand to help others.  John offered his time and talent to many.  He has left a legacy of friendship and will be missed beyond measure.

The family will receive friends for a celebration gathering and memorial service for John at Tidd Funeral Home, 5265 Norwich St. in Hilliard, OH on Thursday, May 18, 2023.  The gathering will be from 12:00-2:00 PM and from 4:00-6:00 PM.  A Memorial Service will follow at 6:00 PM.  In lieu of flowers, please donate to your favorite charity in his name.
