John Modlich

John Modlich, age 94, of Hilliard, OH, passed peacefully at home on Monday, April 6, 2020. Born in Bischofswalda, Germany to the late Linus and Clara Modlich, John was the owner of Modlich Monument Company before his retirement. He was a veteran of the United States Navy serving during WWII. John was a faithful parishioner of St. Margaret of Cortona Catholic Church. He was a 3^rd Degree Knight of Council #2898, Knights of Columbus, a charter member of Hickory Hills Golf Club and a member of the Columbus Maennerchor and Germania Societies. In addition to his parents, John was preceded in death by his brothers Gerard and Linus Modlich, his sister Irmgard Modlich and his grandson Jeffy. He is survived by his beloved wife of 67 years, Helen Marie Rains Modlich; children: Jerry (Colleen), Dan (Monica Bell), Lynne Modlich King, Mark (Helene), Kris (Kelly), Mary Modlich, Linus (Patti), Matt (Tami), Heide Modlich; and his 24 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren, brother-in-law Pat Rains, and many friends. The Modlich Family would like to thank Mt. Carmel Hospice for their compassionate care of John. Due to the current health crisis, a private family Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated by The Reverend Jeffrey J. Rimelspach and burial was observed at Wesley Chapel Cemetery in Hilliard. A public Memorial Mass will be held at St. Margaret of Cortona Catholic Church when health conditions permit with the date and time of the Memorial Mass to be announced later.
