John H Scarberry

John H. Scarberry Sr., age 84, of Hilliard, passed away surrounded by his family on June 25, 2023. He was born on July 18, 1938, in Kentucky, to the late Garfield and Millie Scarberry.

John retired from the City of Hilliard after 18 dedicated years. He enjoyed working on cars, playing the guitar and singing, as well as watching the Cincinnati Reds. Spending time with his grandkids and great-grandkids was the highlight of his later years. He enjoyed traveling back home to Kentucky for visits and sitting outside in his rocking chair.

John’s faith was an important part of his life and he enjoyed attending Shining Light Baptist Church in Hilliard. He would also enjoy eating at Abner’s on the weekends for their breakfast.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Peggy Scarberry; and his siblings, Ed, Scott, Lil and Gretchen.

He is survived by his children, Tammy (Ben) Horsley, Sonja (Greg) Ross, John Jr. (Stephanie) Scarberry, and Curt (Alaina) Scarberry; siblings, Bess, Sue and Ruby; grandchildren; Angel, Jimmy, Jamie, Denver, April, John Michael, Cameryn, Zach, Josh, Tyler and Tanner; great-grandchildren, Mae, Scarlett, Henry, Katelyn, Addy, Kimmy, Kassy, Paisley, Josiah, Archer, Laker, and two baby girls on the way.

The family will receive friends on Friday, June 30, 2023, from 11 a.m. – 1 p.m., at the TIDD FAMILY FUNERAL HOME, 5265 Norwich Street, Hilliard, where a funeral service will begin at 1 p.m. Burial will follow at Wesley Chapel Cemetery.
