John G. Wolford

d. September 14, 2018

John G. Wolford, age 87, of Galloway, OH, died Friday, September 14, 2018. John retired from General Motors after many years of service. He often joked that when he passed, he would be going to the “Great GM in the Sky.” John overcame several health obstacles when growing up. He was full of charisma, charm and good looks. He was known for never encountering a stranger and he formed and promoted several Country Western bands-one of them was the “Prairie Ramblers” in the 1960’s. He was a paperboy for the Columbus Dispatch and often joked to his grandchildren that he was “King of the Twilo’s” with a flying car! He had countless friends and acquaintances through his church and work. He loved Western wear and hats and was quite the dresser. John loved playing the harmonica was quite good at it. On the way home from Grandma Glady’s house he would lead all of us in singing “I’ll Fly Away.” He was always up to something, always making you laugh and was always encouraging. John will be sadly missed by all who knew him. Emptiness fills the day only to search your heart and know that he is still with us. He was the light of our lives and the rock of our family. John was a member of the Grove City Senior Center, UAW Local #969 and a member of First Baptist Church in West Jefferson. John was preceded in death by his brother Dick Gray, sister Catherine, step-son William McNamer and by his adoptive mother Breata Beatrice Miller. He is survived by his wife Mary Irene Wolford of Galloway, his former spouse and the mother of his children Wanetta Mae Wolford of Hilliard, his children Karen (Tom) Teter of Westerville, OH, John (Betty) Wolford of Galloway, Christina (Mark Neff) Wolford of Reynoldsburg, OH, James A. Wolford of Hilliard, Steve McNemar of Ocala, FL, David (Carmella) McNemar of Ocala, FL, Mary Ann (Jim) Starkey of Valrico, FL, 7 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren, sister Carolyn (Melvin) Richardson of Republic, MO, many loving nieces and nephews and many, many friends.
