Joseph P. Beck, age 84, passed away Tuesday, October 4, 2016 from complications of FTD/Alzheimer's surrounded by his loving family. Born June 18, 1932 to John and Regina Beck, the younger brother to Jack Beck, who all preceded him in death. Dad is survived by his wife of 58 years, Darlene L. Beck, who he married on February 8, 1958; daughters, Denise (Kevin) Gallagher, Kim (Terry) Boyd, Lynne (Gary) Becker, and Valerie (Jim) Lacey; grandchildren, Dan, Connor, Mandy, Shane, Todd, Amy and Erin; great granddaughters, Ava Grace and Jenna Lynne. Born in New Straitesville, OH, he attended St. Augustine School and would later move to Columbus, where he graduated from St. Mary High School. Joseph was a proud Navy Veteran having served his country aboard the U.S.S. Philippine Sea Air Craft Carrier during the Korean Conflict. He worked over 37 years at the General Motors Columbus plant where he was employed as a machinist after completing his apprenticeship following his Naval service. He retired in 1988, and was a member of the UAW Local 969. Joe had a work ethic like no other, never took a day off unless absolutely necessary, truly loved his job, and was an asset to the company. Joe was an avid bowler, golfer, and was dedicated to the American Red Cross in his blood donations. Joe and Darlene are charter members of RELC in Hilliard, OH where they devoted countless hours of service. Dad was ready to reunite with those he loved before he loved us. Friends may call Tuesday, October 11, 2016 from 12 noon until time of memorial service at 1 p.m. at the TIDD FAMILY FUNERAL HOME, 5265 Norwich St. in Hilliard, OH. In lieu of flowers, family suggests contributions be made to The Mike Barnett Brain Research Foundation, 7685 Haverhill Court, Dublin, OH 43017 in memory of Joseph Beck.
