Joseph A. Carrillo

May 27, 1936 — October 25, 2022

Hilliard, Ohio

Joseph A. “Joe” Carrillo passed away peacefully on Tuesday, October 25, 2022 at the age of 86.  He was born to his late parents Ralph and Rose Carrillo on May 27, 1936 in Brooklyn, New York.  Joe attended New York University and studied accounting which led to a position as an auditor for Danker & Wholk in Hempstead, New York. After a short migration through West Virginia, he accepted a position as a comptroller for American Life Insurance Company in Dublin, Ohio.  Afterwards, with encouragement from his wife Joyce, he considered a change into the real estate industry.  Joe became licensed with Holzer-Wollam and became an agent achieving many awards.  Later, he became a broker and was a manager for HER Realtors in Hilliard, where he also managed the Prudential/Calhoun Agency.  When he left the Prudential Company, Joe opened his own brokerage, CRLO Realtors.  Joe was a member of the Columbus Board of Realtors and served on many committees that were concerned with upholding the standards and ethics of the Board.

Joe was a typical “Man’s Man.” He would fight for anything he believed in and would never do the easy thing.  Even if unpopular, Joe would not be afraid to stand up for anything-or anyone-who was oppressed.  He was always fair.  His manner was “gruff sounding but easy going.”  Always a softie, Joe was an avid New York Giants fan through thick and thin. The Giants were his forever team, though lately, mostly thin!  While living in New York, Joe was a talented musician as a member of the Lou Perez Latin Band and played the conga drums.  He was passionate in his love of Latin music.  Since the move to Ohio in 1973, Joe became a Buckeye enthusiast.  He loved Golden Retrievers and strongly supported Golden Endings, a rescue organization for the breed.

In addition to his late parents, Joe was preceded in death by his brothers Alfred, Charles and Ralph Carrillo.  He is survived by his beloved wife Joyce, his sons Joseph, Michael and Jai (Andrea), his three grandchildren Mikey, Christina and Vincent., sisters-in-law Mary Carrillo and Gloria Carrillo, and many nieces, nephews and friends.
