Joseph Pascal (JP) Morgan born August 17, 1923 in Wofford, Kentucky, peacefully departed this earth at Westminster-Thurber on January 4, 2009 after a rapid decline in health. He was raised in the mining camps of Kentucky during the depression and was taught the importance of honesty and hard work by his father and grandfather. He instilled these values in his children. JP served his country in the South Pacific during World War II in the army as mechanic in the 735th Engineer Heavy Shop Company. He was awarded the Asiatic-Pacific Theater Ribbon, Good Conduct Medal, Meritorious Unit Award, and Victory Medal World War II. Upon return to this country, he met the love of his life, Ophelia Aleph Todd, in Cincinnati. They were able to spend over 60 years together as husband and wife. He retired from the Norwood Board of Education in Cincinnati where he served as supervisor of buildings and grounds. He was a member of Norwood Presbyterian Church for 37 years where he was a deacon and elder. He and Ophelia moved to Columbus in 2003 to be near grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents Joseph and Ethel Morgan, brothers Clyde and Gorman Morgan, and his sister Lena Watson. He is survived by Ophelia and their five children, Steve (Jan), Michael, Joy (Ed Aldridge), Cynthia, and Nancy (Scott Vaughan); his four grandchildren, Patrick and Meredith Morgan, Kathleen and Erin Vaughan; and his sisters Nancy Braden, Mary (Dale) Miller, and Myrtle (Bradley) Jackson. A memorial service celebrating his life will be held at King Avenue United Methodist Church 299 King Avenue, Columbus, Ohio 43201 on Saturday, January 24th at 1PM. Pastor John Keeny will officiate. Afterwards, the family will receive friends at the church with continuation at the home. A private interment will occur at a later date. Always a giver, he donated his body to The Ohio State University with arrangements through Tidd Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, contributions to King Ave UMC or church of your choice can be made in his memory.
