Kyle Andrew Krieger, a cherished husband, son, brother, and friend, passed away on May 15th, 2024, at the age of 31, surrounded by family after heroically battling cancer for three and a half years.
Kyle embraced life with fearlessness, enthusiasm, and authenticity. His personal motto being, “You never take a called third strike, you always get your swings in, even if that means swinging at the high ones.” From childhood to adulthood, Kyle openly gave God the glory. On the hardest days and brightest days, he was the first person to pray.
Even while fighting cancer, Kyle lived life boldly. During his battle, he hiked the Grand Canyon, savored Angel’s Envy on the Kentucky Bourbon Trail, cheered on the Bengals and Buckeyes both at home and away, visited Fenway Park on a trip to Boston, revitalized his Pokémon card collection, basked in sunshine in La Jolla, and devoured lobster in Maine. One of his most treasured trips was a trip out West with his wife where they road tripped through Montana, Wyoming, Idaho, and Colorado. He frequently reminisced about waking up with a cup of coffee and gazing at the snowcapped mountains of Bozeman.
Kyle never lost his drive to live. The week before his passing, he was determined to make it to a family trip to Hilton Head, and he did. Amidst the challenges his physical body faced, Kyle strived to find peace in all moments.
Born on April 1, 1993, Kyle grew up in West Milton, Ohio. He spent his childhood being coached in various youth activities by his dad, Kortney (Ed), was nurtured in faith by his mother, Barb, looked up to his big brother, Nick, teased his little sister, Kate, spent time with his Grandpa David and antiqued with his Grandma Linda.
Kyle’s love for sports and academic excellence led him to The Ohio State University, where he proudly graduated with a degree in Civil Engineering and went on a trip of a lifetime to Tanzania with his best friend, James. Post-graduation, he began his career with Turner Construction. Kyle adored his job and Turner family, so much so that he continued to work through all his treatments. One of Kyle’s most notable projects was constructing the National Veterans Memorial & Museum in Columbus.
In 2019, Kyle married the love of his life, Carrie. In Kyle’s words, “Four years with you isn’t enough, a lifetime isn’t enough. Thank you for allowing me to be the one who loves you.” Carrie’s unwavering love and caregiving to Kyle showed that angels are among us on this earth.
Kyle was a man of many passions making him a VIP at pub trivia. He loved movies and TV shows, especially James Bond, Harry Potter, and The Office. He had an extensive knowledge of sports and history, particularly football and WWII, and once dreamed of becoming a history teacher. He frequented Reds and Bengals games with his brother and nephew, Adam. He also cherished the outdoors, often hunting, fishing, or relaxing at Clear Lake with his stepmom, Pam.
Many of Kyle’s memories are tied to his love of food and his compassion for people. He loved putting his heart and soul into his home-cooked meals and hosting his loved ones, including Super Bowl parties, Thanksgiving, Christmas Dinner, 4th of July, or just a weeknight get- together. He routinely partook in Friday Pizza nights and weekend coffee and donuts. And he may have even received stitches in college due to jumping for excitement for chicken wings.
Kyle will be remembered for his dry sense of humor, intensity of love for his people and protectiveness of his loved ones. Always the funniest in the room, Kyle’s storytelling and ability to make everyone feel welcomed will be dearly missed.
