Larry Francis Caldwell, age 76, peacefully passed away on the morning of May 13th, 2023. A lifelong resident of Columbus, Larry led a life of consistent dedication, a strong work ethic, and humbleness before God. Following high school graduation from Bishop Waterson (1965), he was proud to serve his country during the Vietnam War as a member of the U.S. Airforce. Upon returning home, Larry enrolled at the Ohio State University, where he studied Architecture and met his wife of 50 years, Beverly.
Over the course of his 40 year career as licensed architect, Larry progressed from a junior draftsman to a managing partner at local architectural firm, Meacham and Apel (M&A) Architects. His love for design did not stop when the workday ended. Outside of work, he designed and personally built several additions to the family home in Hilliard, Ohio. He also frequently created architectural plans to help friends and neighbors with their own home remodeling projects.
When not working, Larry was often found tending to the family vegetable garden, fishing along the Scioto River, or planning the next family camping trip. Other frequent activities included watching WWII planes at local airshows, and cheering at his children’s numerous sporting events, regardless of the weather. Come every autumn Saturday, he made sure to reserve time to watch the Buckeyes on the football field.
His generosity, strong work ethic, pumpkin carving creativity, and love for cookies-and-cream ice cream will be truly missed.
Larry was the son of Clyde and Helen (Susey) Caldwell and brother to the late Tom Cross. Larry is survived by his wife, Beverly (Claycombe) Caldwell, their three children Lisa (Chris) Steele, Kevin (Sofia) Caldwell, Keith (Jenna) Caldwell, nine grandchildren: Mackenna, Elijah, Miley, Olive, Paloma, Jax, Finnegan, Kai and Asher, and his sister Elaine (Jerry) Troesch. He highly valued his Italian heritage and times spent with his larger extended family, especially his Aunt Maria (Susi) Cenko and the late UncleTony Susi.
The Caldwell family is hosting a celebration of Larry’s life on Friday, May 26th at Northwest Chapel,
