Larry and Merianne Jones
Lawrence Paul Jones, age 91, was born in 1929 and passed from this life November 8, 2020. Larry was born and raised in Newark, Ohio and was a graduate of Newark High School and The Ohio State University. He was a Korean War Veteran, serving in the US Navy 1948-1952 as a radarman on the USS Fletcher. After graduating from OSU, he taught Industrial Arts, Math and Driver Education for the Columbus Public Schools. Larry also earned a Master’s Degree in Public Administration from OSU. From 1968-1988 he was the Director of the Office of Testing and Evaluation at Ohio State. Larry was happily married to his beloved wife, Merianne for 62 years. He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles P. and Freda Jones, and his sisters Paula Ann and Phylis. His sister, Carol Yost (Newark Oh) survives Larry. He was a Mason in the New England Lodge No. 4 F&AM.
Merianne T. Jones, age 94, was in born 1930, and passed from this life on August 6, 2024. Merianne was born and raised in Columbus, Ohio and was a graduate of North High School, Class of ‘48 and The Ohio State University. She also spent a year studying abroad at the London School of Economics. Teaching was Merianne’s life work. After Merianne and Larry married, they spent four wonderful years teaching at American Army base schools in Verdun, France and Munich, Germany. They called it their four-year honeymoon. Merianne also enjoyed the many years she taught at St. John’s Early Education Center. Merianne is preceded in death by her parents John H. and Beaulah Thompson.
Larry and Merianne are survived by their daughter Kristen Gerhard, of Franklin, TN, their son Eric (Betsy) of Hilliard, Ohio, their grandchildren Alex, Allison, Evan and Ben, and many nieces and nephews. Larry and Merianne were long-serving members of the Worthington United Methodist Church. They enjoyed 47 wonderful years in their house on Haymore Avenue, raising Kristen and Eric and entertaining their many friends. Merianne and Larry enjoyed exercising with their many friends at the Griswold Senior Center in Worthington. They were especially fond of their Ohio State University weekend testing crew. Larry and Merianne will always be remembered as wonderful parents, grandparents and friends and will be missed dearly by their family and friends. Special thanks to the wonderful staff at The Forum at Knightsbridge and Capital City Hospice for the great care they received. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made in Larry and Marianne's name to the Griswold Center, c/o Worthington Parks and Recreation Department, 777 High Street, Worthington, Ohio 43085. Family will receive friends from 12:00p.m.-1:00p.m. SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 7, 2024 at the TIDD FAMILY FUNERAL HOME, 5265 Norwich Street, Hilliard, OH 43026 (614)-876-1722 where their Celebration of Life Service will immediately follow and begin at 1:00p.m.
Larry and Merianne will be buried at Fairmount Cemetery, Jacksontown, Ohio, in a private family service at a later date.
