Lawrence Ehlers

May 29, 1941 — March 11, 2025

Lawrence J. “Larry” Ehlers, 83, of Hilliard, Ohio, passed away peacefully on March 11, 2025. Larry was the beloved husband of Judith (née Shutter) Ehlers, his high school sweetheart and partner in life for 62 years. The couple married at Dolton Methodist Church in Dolton, Illinois, and built a life together marked by love, shared adventures, and a deep bond that endured for more than six decades.

Larry grew up in Dolton, Illinois and graduated from Thornton High School in the Class of 1959. He earned a degree in forestry from Iowa State University and served his country as a member of the United States Army. Following his service, he worked for the State of Ohio in forestry management for many years until his retirement.

Larry was an avid fisherman and music lover who enjoyed performing in barbershop quartets, including The Singing Buckeyes Chorus in Columbus, Ohio. He had a passion for genealogy and spent many hours researching his and Judy’s family history. They also enjoyed traveling together, taking many cruises throughout the years and spending time in the mountains of Tennessee.

Larry is survived by his devoted wife, Judy, as well as his sister Jeanne Vos and her husband Harold, and dear sisters-in-law Olivia Shutter and Rebecca (Shutter) Wildman. He was a cherished uncle to Renee (Michael) Mahoney, Brian (Tracy) Prasco, Dale Prasco, David (Dusanka) Vos, and Daniel (Corrie) Vos, a proud great-uncle to Abbie (Michael) Jasinski, Autumn (Mark) Modrzejewski, Ana, Mila, Owen, Nora, and Niko Vos and great-great-uncle to Levi Modrzejewski.

He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Lillian (Krueger) Ehlers; his sister and brother-in-law, Judy and Ray Prasco; his nephew, Keith Prasco; and his sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Debbie and Cecil Vaineo.

A memorial service will be held in the coming months to celebrate Larry’s life and legacy. Details will be announced at a later date.
