Louis "Lou" Baumgartner

Louis “Lou” David Baumgartner, 81, of Dublin passed away peacefully on May 15 as a result of Alzheimer’s.  He is survived by his loving wife of 35 years, Lindy (Green) and by his children: David (Debbie) Baumgartner, Leah (Tim) Cassady, Mark (Glenda) Baumgartner of Maryland, Joseph (Melanie) Pizzino, Daniel (Molly) Pizzino and Marisa (Mike) Heidenreich of Columbus/Dublin.  He is also survived by his grandchildren: Eric, Joe, Evan, Matthew, Avery, Jacob, Anthony, Anna, Emma, Will, Dominic and Sydney and his brother Donald (Colleen).  He was predeceased by grandson Ryan and by his parents Estelle and Louis Baumgartner. 

Lou was born in Baltimore in 1941 and graduated from Dundalk High School.  He then joined the Air Force and served in Vietnam.  He was active in American Legion Post 800 and the Dublin/Hilliard VFWs.  He was an original member of the Dublin VFW, served as the District 11 Commander and founded the annual Memorial Day remembrance in the Dublin cemetery.

He worked in telecommunications, starting as a central office installer for Western Electric in Baltimore, MD and eventually transferring to the Western Electric Training Center in Dublin, where he met Lindy.  He later worked for Ameritech Advanced Data, Qwest Communications and Wireless Facilities Inc. (WFI).

He was an avid golfer and enjoyed golfing with his many friends.  Most people will remember Lou as a fun, friendly person who loved telling jokes. 

A service to celebrate Lou’s life will be held at 1:00 PM on Saturday, May 20 at Prince of Peace Lutheran Church, 5475 Brand Rd., Dublin.  The family will receive friends on Friday 5-7 PM and Saturday 12-1 PM at the church. 

Donations may be made in Lou’s memory to the Alzheimer's Association.
