Lowell Dwayne Bassett, age 93, passed away on Wednesday, March 20, 2024 at the First Community Village in Upper Arlington, Ohio. Lowell was born September 9, 1930. He is survived by children Steven, David, Larry, Julie, and Donald and 7 grandchildren, 4 great grandchildren and 1 great-great grandchild; and his brother Norman Bassett of Great Falls, Montana. He was preceded in death by siblings Bessie Woodruff of Rising Sun, Ohio, Ronald Bassett of Houghton Lake, Michigan and his wife Carolyn.
Lowell grew up in Fostoria and Rising Sun, Ohio and graduated high school in 1948. He attended Otterbein College from 1949-1953 graduating with a B.A. Degree. He then attended the United Theological Seminary from 1953-1957 receiving a Master of Divinity degree. Ordained by the Evangelical United Brethren church, he was a Pastor at several congregations prior to moving to Hilliard, Ohio in 1963. Employed with State and County Civil Services, he devoted his efforts to working with physically handicapped and mentally challenged adults until his retirement in May, 1994. Lowell was a member of the Hilliard United Methodist Church for decades, and a popular individual within the community. He was well known for his friendliness and generosity and his talent at playing the harmonica.
The family will receive friends for a funeral service for Lowell on Thursday, March 28 at Tidd Funeral Home, 5265 Norwich St. in Hilliard, OH. Visitation will be from 3:00-5:00 PM. A funeral service will follow at 5:00 PM, the Rev. April Blaine presiding. A graveside service be at Trinity Cemetery in Rising Sun, OH on Friday, March 29 at 11:00 AM, Dr. Keith Norwalk officiating.
