Lula Bess Carey “Lou” passed away peacefully in the home of her loving caretakers, Betty and Ron Tatterson, in Hilliard, Ohio on January 12, 2016 at age 87. Lou was preceded in death by her parents, Harry Carey and Eva Cross Carey, and by her dear sister and brother-in-law, Vivian Carey Gossett and Donald Gossett of Hillsboro, OH. She is survived by her nephews Daniel Gossett (Wanda) of Xenia, Joe Gossett, whose current home is his RV as he travels the country, and niece Sheila Gossett (John Botti) of Columbus, by 5 great nieces and nephews, Tracy (Jim) Stadler, Kelly (Daryn) Boyer, Jenny (Christian) Penrod, Trevor Gossett Botti, and Andrew Gossett Botti, and by many great, great nieces and nephews. Born in Columbus, Ohio on July 1, 1928, Lou received her B.S. in Social Work from Ohio State University and her Master’s degree from University of Denver, CO. Her passion and her career was in protecting children, and she worked for many years with Franklin County Children’s Services before retiring in 1988. Lou was one of the earliest volunteers to the Peace Corps in the early 1960’s. She so valued her time in the Philippines with the Peace Corps, as well as the cultural immersion she sought in her many other world travels. She loved restoring her home in German Village, walking her dog through Schiller Park, and giving parties for her dear friends. Lou was an active member for many years at Livingston United Methodist Church and later at First Community Church. She will be greatly missed and will be remembered for her whimsical poetry and her great wit. Private services for the family will be held at a later date.
