Lyman Darrell Nicely

July 3, 1937 — September 27, 2008

Lyman Darrell Nicely relocated from West Virginia to Columbus in 1958 with his loving wife Shirley by his side. In 2001, after 44 wonderful years of marriage, Shirley went on ahead to wait for him in Heaven. Lyman relocated to London, then Hilliard, where he resided until his passing. With the loss of his vision in 1999 and an 8-month battle with West Nile Virus in 2002, his friends helped him more than they would ever realize. Sousan and Barbie were his wonderful neighbors who always had a watchful eye and a caring word. He and Sousan would sit on the patio talking till the wee hours of the morning, which was one of Lyman’s favorite things to do. Tammy Cibula was his dear “Skippy Lou” who listened to all of his stories, was his eyes when he traveled, and offered comic relief as needed. Donna Bailey was his best friend and made his face light up, especially when he talked about their day trips. Lyman also had a passion for classic cars. This past year has been full of good memories for Lyman and his family and friends cherish each and every one. He was happy and loved at the time of his passing.
Son of the late Arlie Nicely and survived by his loving mother, Hester, Lyman leaves to mourn his passing, his elder daughter Darla (Dan) Dinneen, and younger daughter Deana (John) Meyers. Lyman has 4 wonderful grandchildren and 2 step grandchildren. He was very proud of his first born grandchild, Sean Baker, who recently graduated from Akron U. He also had a special place in his heart for his first granddaughter, Nicole LaFuze, who is studying abroad in Sweden. The youngest of the grandkids, Kaylee and Corey Baker, were a double blessing in their Pappa’s life. He loved them more than they will ever know. Step grandchildren Brandon and Ashley Meyers have been an added blessing to the family and they will miss Grandpa Lyman as well. Lyman is also survived by his only sister Martha and her husband Wandel Eplin of Raceland, KY. He also leaves to mourn his passing, dear friend and sister-in-law June Thompson and her husband Ronald of Huntington, WVA. Known as “Uncle Darrell” to his nieces and nephews and Darrell to all of his extended family, his passing causes us sorrow and he will be sorely missed by us all.
Friends may call 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM Wednesday at THE TIDD FUNERAL HOME 5265 Norwich St Hilliard OH 43026 where a funeral service will be held at 1:00 PM with Pastor Dale George officiating. Interment Sunset Cemetery.
