Margery Heintzelman

d. November 19, 2022

It is with heavy hearts that we say goodbye to our wonderful mother, grandmother, and friend.  Margery Heintzelman was born 9-6-1922 in Wooster, Ohio to Walter and Ola Major.  She passed away on 11-19-2022 at age 100. Margery was preceded in death by her husband, of 45 years, former Ohio State Representative Ross G. Heintzelman, and son Chris Heintzelman. She is survived by daughter Diane K. Heintzelman and granddaughter Anna W. Heintzelman. Margery spent her life in service to others, both in Canton and then Hilliard. She spent her final decade at Wesley Glen in Columbus.

Margery met every life experience with her kind, can-do determination, and welcoming smile – farm girl, political wife, mother, grandmother, brownie/girl scout leader, Sunday school teacher, costume-maker, artist, hat-lover, ice cream connoisseur, tap-dancer, and card shark. For neighborhood children, ‘Mrs. Heintzelman’ would always find the perfect activity to fill a rainy day. She once made 70 animal headdresses for the Canton First Methodist Church Noye’s Fludde musical. She was a reluctant, but dedicated political wife. Margery never missed the opportunity to catch her guilty pleasure, The Young and The Restless and thought every day should be ice cream day. She loved cheering on her boys every OSU football game, even if she had to yell at the tv every now and then. Margery shared her love of arts and crafts and musicals with her granddaughter during magical summer staycations. She excelled at painting, yet explored many forms of art. Margery tap-danced and sang with the Hilliard Senior Center Happiness Singers, and attended various bible study groups. She also participated in the Ohio State Medical Center’s decades-long Women’s Health Initiative study. Margery was a devoted caregiver and advocate for her son, Chris, and was a member of the National Alliance for the Mentally Ill and the PLANCO Lifetime Assistance for the Mentally Ill. Her warmth and caring will be missed by all.

The family thanks the incredible staff of Wesley Glen for their devoted caregiving.

A celebration of life gathering will be held at Wesley Glen on Saturday, December 3rd.  In lieu of flowers, we invite you to make a gift in Margery’s honor to the Wesley Glen Hospice Foundation or to Planned Parenthood of Greater Ohio.
