Maria T. Shumaker

Maria T. Shumaker, age 88, of Hilliard, Ohio, lovingly known to her family as "Oma," passed peacefully in her sleep at Kobacker House in Columbus, OH on Sunday, December 6, 2020. Born in Brixen, Austria to the late Anton and Berta Garber, Maria was one of eight children. She immigrated to the United States in 1958 and proudly became a United States citizen in 1976. She married Richard Shumaker in 1972 and together raised their family in many locations throughout the country.  Maria was a long-time member of The Columbus Maennerchor, North America's Oldest German Language Singing Society & Social Club, and active participant/singer in the Damenchor.  Maria was profoundly proud of her family and treasured travelling and watching her family grow.  She will be forever remembered for her work ethic, love of family and her traditional German recipes.  No one will ever make a better spaetzel or bake a more delicious pound cake!

In addition to her parents, Maria was preceded in death by her husband Richard, her son Mark Shumaker and five of her siblings. She is survived by her sons Greg (Cinda) Shumaker, David (Gabe) Goldsberry and Anthony L. (Karen) Shumaker, her daughter-in-law Marci (Dennis) Martel, grandchildren: Gregory (Erika) Shumaker, Christopher (fiancé, Jessica Salerno) Shumaker, Wendy (fiancé, Mark Zronek) Shumaker, Benjamin (Melissa) Shumaker, Tyler (Alyssa) Shumaker, Rachel (Patrick) Boyd, Ryan (Stephanie) Shumaker, Katie (Mike) Fitzgerald, 10 great-grandchildren: Charlotte Shumaker, Ethan Shumaker, Emma Shumaker, Lucas Shumaker, Payton Boyd, Mason Boyd, Nathan Shumaker, Austin Shumaker, Kamryn Shumaker, Milo Fitzgerald, her brother Louis (Whaja) Garber, her sister Rosie Tallowitz, and her many nieces, nephews and friends.

Due to the Covid-19 Pandemic, private services will be held for the family with burial following at Wesley Chapel Cemetery, Hilliard, OH. A Memorial Celebration, post-Covid, will be held for all of her family and friends.
