Dr. Marianito Ruiz Montero died October 13, 2015, in Hilliard, OH. He was born on August 29, 1931 in Guiuan, Eastern Samar, Philippines, and in 1972, immigrated to the United States (WV) with his family of 12. Marianito completed medical school at Manila Central University, worked at the National Center for Mental Health (Mandaluyong, Philippines) and received a master’s degree in public health from Johns Hopkins University while on a World Health Organization Fellowship. He served as medical director of Lakin State Hospital, WV, where he continued to practice psychiatry, retiring from the State of WV Department of Health. Marianito will be remembered for his commitment to the value of education, keen intellect, great appreciation for life, wonderful wit, and sensitivity and empathy for others. Above all, “DaNany” is revered for his palpable love and devotion to family. His survivors include his wife, Jovelina Mozo Montero, MD; ten children, Joy Montero, MA; Marlene Alley (Hugh, deceased); Jojo Strickler, DDS (Chuck); Marianita Wenzel (Tim); Don Pedro Montero, MD (Jeanette); Jocelyn Braden (Tim); Marianito Montero; Johanna Montero Mahal; Jessamine Montero-Michaels, D.Ed. (Rich); and Jomar Montero; 17 grandchildren, Jon (Jen) and David (Kendra) Alley and Miko Alley Gagai (Dennis); Niko and Kristo Strickler; Brijon Montero; Narisa, Jadon, Milan and Siena Montero; Jared and Drew McCaffrey and Lakyn Montero; Marianito, MS and Chaz Montero; Anna and Zach Montero-Colbert; and two great grandchildren, Jackson Alley and Kyler Alley. Marianito was predeceased by his parents, Felicidad A. Ruiz and Pedro A. Montero, MD and his brother, Pedro Montero, Jr., MD. He is survived by his sisters, Milagros Dala and Rosalinda Reyes, MD and brother, Steve Montero. Friends may call Saturday, October 17, 2015 at St. Brendan The Navigator Catholic Church, 4475 Dublin Rd. in Hilliard, from 10:00 a.m. until time of funeral mass at 10:30 a.m. with Father Bob Penhallurick as the celebrant. Entombment at St. Joseph Cemetery, Lockbourne, OH. Funeral arrangements with the Tidd Family Funeral Home, Hilliard, OH.
