Mario Amaro (January 25th, 1938 - March 27, 2025)

Mario Amaro passed away on March 27, 2025, at the age of 87. There will be no service, just a simple cremation, and his ashes will be interred in Sarasota Memorial Park, Sarasota, Florida.

Mario was born in Chicago, Illinois on January 25th, 1938, to Stephen and Vita Amaro, both Sicilian immigrants. He was the second born of their three children (consisting of his older brother Jack and younger brother Vince). He was preceded in death by all of his immediate family, but is survived by his many relatives and friends, both here and in Sicily, and his loving partner of 24 years, Stephen.

Mario loved the city where he was born and raised, with its vibrant and diverse cultural array, and he would often return to visit throughout his life. During his time there, he was involved in many different pursuits, including running a record store. As time went on, he then left Chicago for California, where he was involved with the recording industry for several years. Mario loved music and the record industry, and he was also very talented at dancing. After a time, he then relocated to the Sarasota area to be near his aging parents, where he had several years as a successful independent salesperson and landlord. He eventually retired at 55 years of age and moved to Sarasota to care for his aging mother. He met his partner Stephen in 2001, and Stephen left Ohio to be with Mario in 2002. After his mother passed away, he and Stephen moved to Floyd, VA where they operated a successful bed and breakfast establishment for several years, before finally moving to Columbus, Ohio, where they spent time with family and friends. Mario was well loved and respected by all who knew him, and he will be sorely missed by those of us who were fortunate to have him in our lives.
