Mary Josephine “Mary Jo” or “Jo” Frick was born July 12, 1936 in Newark, OH, and went to be with the Lord on Friday, January 26, 2024 while residing in Columbus, OH.
Mary Jo grew up in Granville, OH and attended St. Francis de Sales School. In 1952 she moved to Manayunk, PA, where she attended and graduated from St. John the Baptist School. Manayunk is where she would come to meet Donald Frick, and they would later marry in 1955. The two moved to Philadelphia, PA, shortly after and it was both there and Media, PA, where they raised their five children. The family then made the move back to Newark, OH, in 1969.
Mary Jo embodied many qualities, but the most evident to her family and friends were her sharp and quick-witted comments and opinions, her sarcastic sense of humor, her keen obsession with order, polish and etiquette, her (sometimes brutal) honesty, her green thumb, her wild ability to know a little about a lot, cook without a recipe, listen to and remember the smallest detail to make you feel important and heard, her empathy, her kind-hearted demeanor, and her way of making strangers feel like anything other than one. Most importantly, she was a devout servant of, and firm believer in, our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
Mary Jo was preceded in death by her parents, John and Marie Pichla, her brother John Pichla, Jr., her son Michael Frick, and her husband Donald Frick. She is survived by her four sons: Fred (Vicki) Frick, John (Kim) Frick, Stephen Frick, Dennis Frick, and daughter Bernadette (Jerame) Frick-Davies, as well as her seven grandchildren that she loved and adored: Michael Frick, Megan (Michael) Willman, Andrew (Ashley) Frick, Jared Frick, Alyssa (Casey) Justus, Alexandra Davies (Grant Lewis), and Abigaile Davies, her seven great-grandchildren: Charlotte, Oliver, Crosley, Ruby, Josephine, Romi and Oscar. She is also survived by many friends, cousins, medical staff, and parishioners of St. Brendan the Navigator Catholic Church, that she grew to love like her own family. We will miss her deeply.
