Mary (Curl) Vincent

September 28, 1923 — March 27, 2020

Mary (Curl) Vincent, age 96, of Orient, Ohio passed away March 27, 2020.

Mary was born, the eldest of five children, in Urbana, Ohio to the late Lawrence W. and Lydia (Pooler) Curl, on September 28, 1923. Mary was a proud alumna of the first junior high school established in the United States, Indianola Junior High School in Columbus, Ohio. Mary’s family moved to Circleville and she finished her schooling at Circleville High School, graduating in 1940.

On May 13, 1944, Mary married the love of her life, Harry Robert (Bob) Vincent. Mary traveled with Bob as he trained with the Army Air Corps in Texas and California and, when Bob shipped out to Japan, Mary returned to Pickaway County. In their early years, Mary and Bob were active in the Darby Township farming community, as they raised four children. Mary eventually retired from Key Bank Corporation and she and Bob enjoyed traveling the country, and countryside, until Bob’s death in March 2008.

Mary was a member of the Sterling Chapter #74 O.E.S. and she was also a faithful attendee and member of the Derby United Methodist Church, where she shared her musical talent as organist for several years. She enjoyed playing the piano, doing puzzles, watching the birds in the backyard and her nightly routine of watching Jeopardy and Wheel of Fortune. The next time you stop at McDonald’s or have a piece of chocolate - know that she is with you in spirit!

In addition to her husband and parents, Mary was preceded in death by her brother, Edwin Gene (Dolores) Curl and two sisters, Linda Belle Curl and Nancy (Donald) Hartig.

Mary will be greatly missed by her children: Robert (Connie) Vincent, Lucinda Dyas, Vicki (Roger) Gilfert, and Paula Andrick; grandchildren: Yvonne (Jeff) Riley, Jennifer (Thomas) Nance, Jeffrey (Mindy) McKnight, Robert (Erin) Gilfert, Amanda (James) Crowell, and Sarah Ballenger; 14 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great-grandchild; special nieces: Jackie Wotring and Pam Creamer; and many lifelong friends in the Darby Township community and the Derby United Methodist Church. Mary is also survived by her brother, Lawrence W. Curl, Jr.

The family would like to extend love and gratitude to Mom’s church family for helping her throughout her life, but especially this past year. You were each a blessing to her.

We plan to hold a memorial service as soon as we can safely share hugs and memories.

If you wish to make a charitable contribution in Mary’s honor, the family suggests contributions to the Derby United Methodist Church, 11792 London Road, Derby, Ohio 43117 or; the American Diabetes Association.
