Michael A. Mastrangelo

Michael Mastrangelo, age 80, passed away on Saturday, January 25, 2025.  He was born on October 20, 1944 to the late Louis and Martha Mastangelo.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Louis and Martha Mastrangelo.

Mike is survived by his beloved wife, Barbara (Nee Miller) Mastrangelo, his daughters, Kimberly (Timothy) Gray, Deborah (Larry) Tracy, and Beth (Sean) Carter, grandchildren, Ava Gray, Christopher, Madison and Isabel Tracy, and Grace (Matthew) Bruggeman, Greta, and Clare Carter.  He will be missed by all who had the opportunity to know and love him.

Mike graduated from Mayfield High School in 1962 and went on to further his studies at The Ohio State University and earned his bachelors degree in Horticulture.  He then served in the Army and earned a bronze star for his meritorious service in Vietnam.

Mike’s career was a source of immense pride and passion. Growing up on his family’s nursery in Gates Mills, Ohio (Chagrin Valley Nurseries), gave way to his love for horticulture, specifically propagation. Being a nurseryman was not only a job, it was his life. He often quoted, “I’ve never worked a day in my life”. His skills and knowledge were appreciated by fellow landscapers and nurserymen alike. He was a role model to all who knew him.

Most days you could find him fishing in ponds around his community, often known as “Fisherman Mike” by all his neighbors. He loved spending time with his family, as well as doing puzzles, working on his train set and watching action-packed movies.
