Miles McFarland

Miles F. McFarland, age 88, of Hilliard, passed away Monday, October 17, 2011 at his home. He was born May 16, 1923 in Piqua, OH to the late Miles F. Sr. and Eustacia (Mercer) McFarland. Miles was a West High School Graduate in the Class 0f 1942. He served as a staff sergeant in the US Army in the 9th Division where he fought in The Battle of the Bulge. He was a participant of Ohio Honor Flight and for several years he spoke of his war experiences at various local high schools. He also made a C.D. of his experiences with the 9th Division. Miles graduated from the College of Pharmacy at The Ohio State University in 1948. He was a member of the OSU College of Pharmacy Alumni Association. He was also a member of TBDBITL Scholarship Fund. He had his own pharmacy for a period of time and was associated with Wendt Bristol and McKinley Drug Stores. He became an Independent Contractor for the state of Ohio where he was on the review board. He retired from that position in 2007. He was preceded in death by his wife of 51 years, Genevieve; brother, Dr. Richard McFarland; sisters, Lucille Klopfer and Naomi LaCoste. He is survived by his brother, Allan B. (Barbara) McFarland; nieces, Lisa (Robert)Kennedy, Joann Ongaro, and Shirley (Bill) Young; nephews, Scott (Patricia) McFarland, Todd (Nancy) McFarland, Malcolm (Mary Alice) McFarland, Dick (Winnie) McFarland, and Jack (Susan) Logan. He will be missed by his caregivers from Home-Instead and HomeReach Hospice. Family will receive friends Wednesday from 1-2 PM at THE TIDD FUNERAL HOME 5265 Norwich St. Hilliard, OH 43026 where a funeral service will follow at 2 PM with Pastor Theron “Ted” Smith officiating. Military Services will take place at Sunset Cemetery with his American Legion Post #614 presiding.
