Norbert Knies

Norbert R. Knies, age 86, passed away Wednesday, May 14, 2014 at Riverside Methodist Hospital. Graduate of Grandview Heights High School and attended OSU. 3-year veteran of the U.S. Air Force; and later as a member of the National Guard, he was activated into the Army to serve in the Korean War. Employed by North American, DuPont, and retired from AEP. He was a 32nd Degree Mason, and a longtime member of First Community Church. He was an avid scuba diver and loved boating and dancing. Preceded in death by son, Paul; parents, Lisa and Richard Knies; and sister, Doris Hawkins. Survived by wife of 58 years, Joan; sister-in-law, Jean Edge, and her children, Dianna Medley, Susan, Robert, and Jim Edge; brother-in-law, Walter (Peggy) Hawkins and his son, David (partner, Mark Schumacher) Hawkins; and many wonderful friends. Friends may call Sunday, May 18, 2014 from 2 to 4 p.m. at the TIDD FAMILY FUNERAL HOME, 5265 Norwich St. in Hilliard, where funeral service will be Monday, 11 a.m. Reverend Jim Long officiating.
