Norma Jean Strong, passed away, Thursday, April 09, 2009. She was born on December 12, 1925, the daughter of J. Wesley and Irene Masters. Jean married Mike Strong on June 19th, 1944. Mike was the former Mayor of Marion, Ohio and preceded her in death in 1987. Also, preceding her were two sisters, Lucille Masters and Ruth Weaver and daughter Nancy Oriere. She is survived by her daughter Mrs. Ed “Vicki” Phelps of Westerville, Ohio. She also has four grandchildren, Jimi (Jeanne) Ulery of Denver Colorado, Tamara Ulery of Worthington, Ohio, Micah Ulery of Worthington, Ohio and Joy (Joel) Johnson of Lynchburg, Virginia. Jean has six great-grandchildren, Jonah, Jordan, Jaylene, Jenna, Giselle, and Jett. Jean was employed as a nurse at Marion General Hospital and also worked for Dr. Thomas Lastrapes and Dr. W.C. Williams, both of Marion. She also had her pilot’s license and flew charters out of Marion and Columbus, Ohio. Jean was a member of Emanuel Lutheran Church. She served on the board of the Marion County Historical Society. Jean and her husband served as delegates in several of the National Republican Conventions. In lieu of flowers, the family request donations be made to City of Refuge, a non profit Christian organization; where her grandson Jett was adopted from, P.O.
