Patricia M. Wathen, 1929 – 2020. Pat was born in Beckley, West Virginia to her
parents William and Mabel in 1929. Growing up in Beckley, she was surrounded
by a large extended family of grandparents, aunts, uncles and cousins, and a
strong family remained important to her throughout her life.
After graduating from Woodrow Wilson High School in Beckley, where she loved
being in the band, and was voted best dressed girl in her senior class, Pat
attended Lindenwood College in St. Charles, MO, before graduating from the
University of Kentucky. At UK, she met Joseph F. Wathen, and they were married
in April 1952.
After moving to Cincinnati, Pat raised her children Mack (Nancy), Steve (Sandi),
Cynthia Sandoval (Peter), and Ford (Jim Schmidt). Pat was a teacher, and chair of
the Business Department at Princeton High School. She obtained her master’s
degree in Education from Xavier University in 1970.
Pat is survived by her loving family, including her husband of 68 years, Joe, her
brother Bill, her children, eight grandchildren, and seven great grandchildren.
Services and burial will be private. Condolences can be left on the website of Tidd

made in Patricia’s memory to a fund in her name for the Memory Disorders Clinic
at The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center. The Memory Disorders Clinic
supports research of Alzheimer’s disease and dementia. Donations by mail can be
