Phil C. Brown

Phil C. Brown, age 56, of Hilliard, OH, passed away peacefully on March 10, 2024. Phil was born in Columbus, Ohio to Elizabeth (Sheets) Brown and the late Harold P. Brown. The youngest of 5 children.

Phil was raised in Hilliard and after graduation from Hilliard High School in 1985 he went on to play Division 1 football at The University of Toledo where he graduated with a Geography & Urban Planning degree in 1990 and continued some studies toward a Master’s degree in City & Regional Planning at The Ohio State University.

Phil married Melissa “Missy” Prince on June 7, 1997 and raised their children Natalie and Nick in Hilliard. He had great pleasure going to their athletic events and with enthusiasm cheered them on.

Phil was an avid Toledo Rockets and Ohio State Buckeyes fan. His gift for playing a “good” game of euchre outmatched many opponents. He most loved to camp with his family at the family’s property near Athens, OH and run his rhino all over the property. He and Missy traveled all over the US and embraced all the adventures along the way. He was always up for a road trip. He was passionate about his real estate development. He was a good snow skier, athlete, and all-around good person.

Phil was preceded in death by his paternal & maternal grandparents, Wilma & Christian Brown and Ruth & Vernon Orr; his father, Harold Brown; sister Karen Sparks; sister-in-law Heidi Brown, sister-in-law Amy Coy, and mother-in-law Karen Prince. He is survived by his wife of 26 years, Melissa (Prince) Brown, children Natalie & Nick Brown; his mother Elizabeth (Sheets) Brown; father-in-law Mark Prince; sister Betsy (Tim) Schmalenberger; brother Paul (Kara Bodle) Brown; sister Nancy (David) Hafler; brother-in-law Bob Sparks; brother-in-law Jason (Leah) Coy; numerous nieces and nephews: Tyler (Michelle) Schmalenberger; Kyla (Dan) Povse; Megan Schmalenberger; Jared (Kate) Brown; Maggie (Sam) Coughlin; Owen(Alison) Hafler; Carley Sparks (Andy Wellman); Cameron Sparks; and 3 great-nephews, Hudson & Calvin Brown & Griffin Coughlin; his Labrador pup, Bosa; aunts, cousins, and the special family of Tim & Stephanie, Jack, John, & Sydney Vellky; as well as the Tim & Marcy Freed family & the Camping Crew.

Phil was a great husband, father, son, brother, uncle, and friend. He will be greatly missed.

Family will receive friends for an Open House/Celebration of Life from 1:00-4:00p.m. on SATURDAY, MARCH 16, 2024 at the TIDD FAMILY FUNERAL HOME, 5265 Norwich St., Hilliard, OH 43026 (614)-876-1722..
