Phyllis Carter

d. February 19, 2021

Phyllis Jean (Weeks) Carter of Hilliard, Ohio, went to be with the Lord, February 19, 2021.  Born in Bellefontaine, Ohio October 9, 1929 to William C. and Nellie (Plum) Weeks.  Married at the Church of Christ in Bellefontaine, Ohio on May 12, 1951 to her High School sweetheart Arlin N. Carter, who proceeded her in death on November 2, 1995.

After graduating in 1947 from Bellefontaine High School, Phyllis worked for the city of Bellefontaine in the Water and Electric Division, where she processed customer invoices.  For the past 20 plus years was a member of Hilliard Church of Christ.  Phyllis’ spiritual gift was service, which she applied holding jobs at Hilliard City Schools in the cafeteria, the Coffee shop at J.C. Penney’s, and Hostess at a diner in Norwalk, Ohio.

She loved to read mystery and romance novels and her favorite television shows were westerns.  She loved to laugh and was most always seen with a smile on her face, especially when her Grandchildren came for a visit.  She also enjoyed, and was blessed, by the relationships and fellowship with close church friends, who continued to communicate with her as the dementia increased.  The family would like to give a special thanks to mom’s special friend Ruby Butt, who for many years would be her chauffeur to and from church and luncheon outings with other friends when she was not physically able.

Preceded in death by her parents, brothers James (Bus) Weeks and wife Mellzena, William (Bill) Weeks Jr. and wife Ruth, sisters Thelma Weeks Shroyer and husband Carl, Helen Weeks Wooley Miller and husbands Bob and Henry, and Ruth Weeks.  Survived by son William (Bill) Carter and wife Jenny of Westerville, daughter Cynthia (Cindy) Self and husband Charles of Hilliard, son Keith Carter and wife Cindy of Columbus, brother Richard (Dick) Weeks and wife Jane of Bellefontaine, Ohio, eight Grandchildren, 13 Great Grandchildren, with one on the way, and 4 Step Grandchildren.

Family will receive friends 10 am- 11 am Wednesday at the TIDD FAMILY FUNERAL HOME, 5265 Norwich St., Hilliard, OH 43026; where funeral service will follow at 11 am. Graveside will be held 2:30 pm at Greenwood Cemetery, De Graff, OH. In lieu of flowers, please consider a gift to Vitas Hospice Care, Dublin, Ohio.
