Randall Lew Mays

November 23, 1943 — July 18, 2020

Randall Lew Mays (Ron) Age 76 of Columbus, Ohio went to be with the Lord on July 18, 2020.  Randall was born to Lew Wallace Mays and Charlotte Audrey Mays (Ellinger) on November 23, 1943 at Waynesboro Community Hospital, Augusta County, Waynesboro, Virginia.  He passed away from prior health issues and complications of Covid 19.

Randall’s life started out simply with his family in the mountains of Virginia in the beautiful Shenandoah Valley area.  He and his three brothers roamed freely on their land and their relatives’ adjoining property.  When he was a teenager, the family moved to Columbus, Ohio, where his father,  Lew could seek employment.  It was as a young teenager that he began to tinker with electronics, which would later lead him to CB and Ham radio (WA8CRB) interests.  Randall found an interest in law enforcement and worked in the field.  Randall was enlisted in the Army National Guard as a radio operator.  He had several birds in his life that brought him joy.  For the last seven years of his life, he was plagued by health problems and resided in a nursing facility.  He knew many of the residents and staff there.  You could quickly tell what kind of day he was having when you greeted him, as he was very upfront.

Randall was preceded in death by his parents Lew and Charlotte Mays, as well as his youngest brother, Andrew G. Mays.  He is survived by his children Shannon E. Mays Hernandez (Jose), Tracie Mays Stringer (Tabb), and Craig Mays (Amanda), brothers, Roger L. Mays (Pamela), Anthony Wayne Mays (Gail) and sister-in-law Diane Mays.

Randall leaves 14 grandchildren, 5 great grand children, many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.

We wish to thank the staff of The Laurels of Norworth and the  Riverside Methodist Hospital ICU Palliative Care Team for their excellent care of Randall and their communication with his family.  It was very difficult not to be with Randall during this time and we honor the work of these staff members.  Thanks also to our family and friends for their prayers, calls and concern for Randall and the family.

A graveside service will be held 11:00a.m. FRIDAY, AUGUST 7, 2020 at Sunset Cemetery, 6959 West Broad Street, Galloway, Ohio 43119.  Due to the Coronavirus Pandemic, Social Distancing will be observed and guests are required to wear a facial covering.
