Retha Fern Blizzard Hatfield, passed away on Saturday, September 3, 2011 at her residence. She was born September 15, 1927 in Brandywine, West Virginia. She is preceded in death by parents Tyree and Sallie Blizzard, sisters Sadie and Mary Catherine and brothers Alfred, Parnell, Clarence and Marvin. She was married for 54 years to Beryl Edsel Hatfield who preceded her in death. She is also preceded in death by her grandson Terry Lee Wallace, Jr. (TJ). She is survived by daughter Karen Sue Wackenhuth (TJ’s mother), son Rex (Debra) Hatfield, grandchildren Amy Hatfield, Joey (Erin) Hatfield, (great grandchildren Zacary and Tyler), step grandchildren Chris George (step great grandchild Madelyn George), Darren and Derrick George, daughter Karla (Curtis) Lowery, (grandchildren Alex, Miranda and Justin), sister Dorothy May Keller, brother Terry “JR” (Carolyn) Blizzard, along with many nieces, nephews and extended family. She died due to complications from a fall in April 2009. She was in Hospice care for the last 23 months. At various times she worked for the following companies, Moores & Ross Milk Company, Borden Ice Cream and lastly Marsala Manufacturing Company. She was a member of Resurrection Evangelical Lutheran Church since 1973. Family will receive friends 2-4 and 6-8 pm Thursday at the TIDD FUNERAL HOME, 5265 Norwich St., Hilliard, OH 43026. Funeral service will be held 2 pm Friday at Resurrection Evangelical Lutheran Church, 3500 Main St., Hilliard, OH 43026 with Pastor Bob officiating. Interment Alton Cemetery. Retha was a dedicated mother and grandmother. She was a caregiver to everyone. She was always busy with her hands, cleaning, cooking and taking care of everyone who came in contact with her. She was a hard worker and dedicated to her family. She took care of her invalid mother for 21 years and then took care of her husband after his stroke in 1998 until he passed away 3 years later. She will always be remembered for her generosity and the love and devotion she showed to her family and extended family. The family would like to extend a special thank you to Judy Violet and Bob (Dolores) Koontz for all their care and support of mom over the past 2 years. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made the (RELC) church in Retha’s name or American Diabetes Association.
