The Reverend Doctor Richard Eldon “Rick” Karns, of Upper Arlington, left this life peacefully during the early morning hours of May 27, 2008. Rick was born January 25, 1947 and raised in Greenville, Ohio. Preceded in death by his beloved parents Jack E. and Georgine R. Karns. He is survived by his wife Faith L. Karns of Upper Arlington; daughter, Leah S. Lankford; son-in-law, Shawn; granddaughters Amber and Rachel of Shiloh, IL; and stepdaughter, Leslie J. Brado of Dublin. Rick attended Miami University in Oxford, OH and earned his Bachelor of Arts at Maryville College in Maryville, TN in 1969. He then attended Louisville Theological Seminary in Louisville, KY and McCormick Theological Seminary in Chicago, IL receiving his Master of Divinity in 1972 and his Doctor of Divinity in 1987. Before his retirement in 2007 he proudly served as a Minister of the Word and Sacrament in the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) and as a member of the Scioto Valley Presbytery. He served God in Pittsburgh, PA; Cincinnati, OH; Hilliard, OH; Gilbert, AZ; Las Vegas, NV and most recently as Associate Pastor of the Covenant Presbyterian Church of Upper Arlington, OH. Funeral services and visitation will not be held, but a memorial service will be held to celebrate his life at Covenant Presbyterian Church, Upper Arlington. The date is yet to be announced. Memorial contributions may be made to either Maryville College; 502 E. Lamar Alexander Parkway, Maryville, TN 37804, or Covenant Presbyterian Church; 2070 Ridgecliff Rd. Upper Arlington, OH 43221. Those who knew Rick will always remember him as a man of great faith who touched the lives of many with his kindness, generosity, and humor. Those of us left behind are the testament of all that he believed and lived. We were truly blessed to have loved and been loved by him. We rejoice that we knew Rick-that we have the joy of yesterday’s memories and the comfort of tomorrow’s reunion
