Reverend Rodric DiPietro

Reverend Rodric John DiPietro, pastor of St. Brendan the Navigator Church, died August 13. 2011. The son of Fred and Jacqueline (Pomante) DiPietro, he was born in Columbus on August 30, 1950. He is preceded in death by his father Fred and best friend Robert Esselstein. He is survived by his mother, Jacqueline, brother, Fred (Vickie) and sister, Julie (Ezio) Cecchetti, and niece Kellie Patton and nephews Fred DiPietro, John McKown, Adam McKown, Joseph DiPietro, Andres Cecchetti and Ricardo Cecchetti. Father is also survived by several close friends and all of the parishioners of St. Brendan the Navigator Church as well as by his beloved animals Hannah, Specs, Niblet, Kevin, Yogi, Katrina and Louise. Father DiPietro attended St. Augustine and St. Matthias Elementary Schools, Columbus and graduated from St. Francis DeSales High School, Columbus. He attended St. Charles College and Ohio Dominican College, where he earned a Bachelors Degree in 1972. He subsequently studied theology at Catholic University of America, Washington, D.C., where he earned an STB and a masters of divinity in 1976. He was ordained to the Priesthood April 24, 1976 by the Most Reverend Edward J. Herrmann. Father DiPietro served as Associate Pastor at St. Elizabeth Church, Columbus (1976-80), during which time he also taught at St. Francis DeSales High School (1976-78) and was Diocesan Chaplain to the Divorced (1978-80). He served as Associate Pastor at St Pius X Church, Reynoldsburg (1980-84). He was Chaplain at Children’s and Mercy Hospitals with residency at St. Leo Church, Columbus (1984-89). He ministered as Pastor of St. Elizabeth Church (1989-2001), during which time he also served as ordained Chaplain at St. Ann’s Hospital, Westerville, OH. He continued as Chaplain at St. Ann’s Hospital as well as at Mt. Carmel East Hospital with residency at Seton Parish, Pickerington (2001) until he was assigned to serve as pastor of St. Brendan the Navigator Church, Hilliard (2001-2011). Father DiPietro’s body will be received at ST. BRENDAN THE NAVIGATOR CHURCH, 4475 Dublin Rd, Hilliard, Wednesday, August 17, at 1:45 p.m., where friends may call from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. The Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. on Thursday, August 18, 2011 at St. Brendan the Navigator Church. Bishop Frederick F. Campbell will be the principal celebrant, Msgr. Joseph M. Hendricks, homilist. Interment at Resurrection Cemetery, Lewis Center, Ohio, will take place following the funeral liturgy. Please omit flowers.
