Richard (Rich) W. Briggs, age 56 of Hilliard, Ohio, passed away suddenly in his home on Friday, January 10, 2025. The Big Fella will no longer be entertaining the masses and keeping us laughing with his unique, dynamic turns-of-phrase and brand of humor.
Born in Brilliant, Ohio, he was the son of Barbara (Hague) Kidwell but was raised in large part by his grandparents, Charles Richard Hague and Dorothy (Coss) Hague. He often credited them with shaping him into the person that he became. He graduated from Buckeye North High School in 1986, and then attended The Ohio State University. He was also proud to have served in the United States Navy where he had many entertaining adventures at his ports of call in San Diego and Orlando.
His professional career quickly launched when he started at Huntington National Bank in 2000 where he found his passion in the financial services industry. While obtaining his licensing, Rich joked and pranked his way through the organization–much to the delight of his colleagues–all the while establishing countless lifelong relationships. His passion for finance was rooted in his desire to help people. Over his career, he held roles with investment firms that were primarily focused on educating and marketing investment solutions to financial advisors and aspiring retirees, with the end goal of helping improve their financial outcomes. He could grasp and communicate complex topics, but it was his sense of humor that brought levity to otherwise dry subject matter and made people connect so well with him. Rich was known to be loyal, dependable and always hard-working. Rich was a die-hard fan of The Ohio State University Buckeyes and the Dallas Cowboys and enjoyed golfing, skeet shooting, being handy around the house and, above all, spending time with his daughter Abigail. He especially enjoyed volunteering as a Watch DOGG at Hilliard Horizon Elementary and co-chaperoning events for Girl Scout Troop 6993.
Rich met Stacy (Hundsrucker) Briggs in 2006 and eventually married that fetching young lady in 2012. In 2015, Rich’s world drastically changed for the better when his daughter and the light of his life Abigail Elizabeth Briggs was born. Coincidentally, the name “Abigail” means “Father’s Joy”, and she more than lived up to that expectation. Little did Rich know, the things missing in his life were playing with Barbies and trying different hairstyles all weekend. He also prided himself on finding the best Instagram tutorials for trendy locks. He took to fatherhood like a natural and treasured all the moments he got to spend with Abbey, from her swift rise in belt rankings in taekwondo to the engaging science experiments the two of them loved working on together. Not only does Abbey bear a striking resemblance to Rich, she also inherited his sense of adventure, creativity, and his big heart.
Rich was preceded in death by his grandparents, Charles Hague and Dorothy (Coss) Hague; his mother Barbara (Hague) Kidwell and uncles Jim Hague and Ern Hague.
Rich is survived by his daughter Abigail Briggs; his aunt Kay Hague; cousins Jim Hague, Jr., Chuck Hague and John Hague and so many friends he considered to be family.
Family and friends may gather Tuesday, January 21, 2024 from 4:00-6:00 pm at the Tidd Funeral Home at 5265 Norwich St, Hilliard, Ohio, where the Memorial Service will follow at 6 p.m.
