Richard Allan “Dick” Emmelhainz, age 93, passed away October 31, 2021. Richard was born in Brown Township, Franklin County, Ohio, September 20, 1928 to Otto and Helen (Smith) Emmelhainz. He graduated from Hilliard High School, Class of 1946 and graduated from Capital University in 1950, where he was the captain of the baseball team. Richard served in the United States Army from 1952-1954 where he was stationed in Puerto Rico. He was a teacher and coach for Hilliard Schools and Pickerington High School. Richard’s leadership and sales skills led to a career culminating as co-owner and president of Mooney & Moses, Inc. of Ohio until he retired in 1998. He was a former member of Worthington Hills Country Club, enjoying golf and time with friends. He had a fondness for sports and loved his family. Richard said he was a farmer most of his life, loving his gardens and the outdoors. He was a member of All Saints Lutheran Church, Worthington, Ohio. Preceded in death by his parents, Otto and Helen Emmelhainz, his two brothers, Reverend Otto Emmelhainz, Jr. and Keith Emmelhainz and his sister, Anita Emmelhainz, along with grandsons, James Emmelhainz and Spencer Matteson. He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Charlene T. (Ward) Emmelhainz; sister-in-law Ruby Emmelhainz; children: Rick (Valerie) Emmelhainz, Terri Emmelhainz (Nan Counihan), Randy (Jill) Emmelhainz, Mary (Bruce) Ratliff, Rebecca (Alan) Matteson and former son-in-law Brian Hughes; grandchildren: Dan (Keira) Emmelhainz, Chelsey Emmelhainz (Matt Lyons), Erica (Paul) Schainz, Celia Emmelhainz (Joe Claudel), Roger Emmelhainz (Maureen Bailey), Rob (Elise) Emmelhainz, Nettie Emmelhainz (Mark Sarti), Jakob (Arianna) Emmelhainz, Anna Emmelhainz, Nick Hughes, Sam Ratliff, Nathan Matteson and Tom Matteson; great-grandchildren: Lincoln, Zach, Clarke, Lark, Cosie, Wilder, Bernadette and numerous nieces, nephews and friends. “He finally answered my call!”-Richard.
