Richard James Finkle, passed away Thursday, July 27, 2017, age 94, in Hilliard, Ohio. Born on March 2, 1923 in Newark, Ohio, to the late Roland Adam and Gladys (Richards) Finkle. Richard attended St. Francis DeSales High School, and then went on to serve in WWII in the Army Air Corp as a Sargent. He was with the 73rd, B-29 Bomber Wing stationed in the Pacific at the Marianas, Island of Saipan. Following military duty, he then went on to college at Ohio University, in Athens, Ohio through the GI Bill and graduated in Business Administration. After a short stint at Owens Corning Fiberglass, Richard worked for more than 30 years with Westinghouse Electric in their appliance division, first based in Newark at their national parts center and then in Columbus. In addition to his work, he was a 40 year parishioner and a longtime volunteer with St. Brendan the Navigator Catholic Church in Hilliard, Ohio. For more than 20 years, he was an usher at the 7:15 am mass. He also was a member of the Knights of Columbus, American Legion and St. Vincent DePaul Society. He was married to Margery (nee Orr) in 1951. He is survived by his loving wife Margery of 66 years, and children Jeffrey (Vanessa); David (Kim); and Claudia (Mike) Keck and his grandchildren; Matthew, Heather, Melissa, and Daniel; and his great grandchildren: Ashton, Emalee, and Harper. He is preceded in death by his parents and his brothers Donald and Joseph Finkle. Family will receive friends 6-8 pm Tuesday, August 1, 2017 at TIDD FAMILY FUNERAL HOME, 5265 Norwich St, Hilliard, OH 43026. Mass of Christian burial will be held 10 am Wednesday, August 2, 2017 at St. Brendan the Navigator Catholic Church, 4475 Dublin Rd., Hilliard, OH 43026 with Father Bob Penhallurick celebrant. Burial 2 pm at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery, Newark, OH. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the church building fund.
