Richard O'Connor

Richard Daniel O’Connor, 86, passed peacefully November 5, 2016. He was born January 24, 1930. Married to Patricia McCormick O’Connor for 57 years. Son, Daniel Richard O’Connor of Columbus, Ohio. Daughter, Mary Connaught O’Connor of Arlington, VA. Dick was raised in West Hartford, CT with his brother Robert Francis O’Connor (wife Marge). Graduated from Harvard College in 1952. Member of Harvard’s 1636 Society. After Harvard, served in US Army Psychological Warfare at the Psywar Center, Fort Bragg, NC and the Panzer Kaserne in Boblingen, Germany. Utilizing the GI Bill, Dick graduated from the University of Michigan, Graduate School of Business in 1957. Served as Co-Chair of his 50th Class Reunion and named an emeritus graduate of the Ross School of Business. After Michigan, worked for IBM as a Computer Sales Representative and later as a Manager for Arthur Andersen Consulting. In 1970, Dick joined Combustion Engineering, which in 1992 was acquired by ABB. Dick retired from ABB in 2003 as Director of Environment, Health & Safety. While at ABB in Columbus, Dick was a frequent speaker at statewide Chamber meetings on environmental matters for the Ohio Chamber of Commerce. After retirement, Dick became active at St. Brigid of Kildare Church in Dublin, Ohio as a Eucharistic Minister, a Lector, as Chair of the 55+ Club, a longtime member of the Tapestry Committee and a 4th degree member of the St. Brigid Knights of Columbus. Dick and Patti were named St. Brigid Honorees of the year for their service to the church. Preceded in death by Parents Daniel Anthony and Kathryn Ronan O’Connor. Family will receive friends Wednesday November 9 at St. Brigid of Kildare Catholic Church, 7179 Avery Rd Dublin, OH 43017, from 2 to 4 pm and 6 to 8pm. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Thursday November 10, 2016 at 11:00am at St. Brigid of Kildare Catholic Church followed by a luncheon in Hendricks Hall. Burial at Mount St. Benedict Cemetery Bloomfield Connecticut at convenience of family. Friends who wish may contribute in his name to New Melleray Abbey, 6632 Melleray Circle Peosta Iowa 52068.
