Ricky J. Shook, 69, of Hilliard OH, passed away on June 16, 2024, after a challenging battle with Parkinson’s Disease and Dementia.
Born on May 17, 1955, in Springfield, OH, to Harold “Babe” and Aileen Lucille (Hanes) Shook, Rick lived a life rich with music, laughter, and occasional IT troubleshooting.
Rick was preceded in death by his parents and his daughter, Monica D. Shook. He is survived by his wife, Erin (McGrath), daughter Crystal and her husband Michael Bradley, son Peter Warren and his partner Daniel Gaines, brother Terry Shook, son-in-law Andrew Bernard, grandchildren Xander and Olive Bradley, and a host of family and friends who will miss him dearly.
Rick was a 1973 graduate of Northeastern High School and later obtained a degree from Clark State College. He worked as a machinist at Cooper Industries for 28 years before his transition into IT work for Clark County, Ohio. His retirement allowed for more time with Erin, travel, and excessive afternoon napping. He especially loved being a grandfather and relished his time spent with Xander and Olive.
Those who knew him appreciated Rick’s quick wit and dry sense of humor. He would often quote The Simpsons, Seinfeld, Family Guy, or the timeless slapstick of The Three Stooges. He enjoyed sci-fi and classic “B” Horror films that defy all logic and taste. A lifelong fan of jazz, blues, and classic rock, Rick enjoyed live music and saw many of his musical heroes including The Who, BB King, and Eric Clapton.
Rick and Erin enjoyed traveling together, visiting ancient ruins in Rome and castles in Ireland, listening to jazz in New Orleans, and rolling the dice in Las Vegas, where they tied the knot in 2003. Their adventures were legend, their memories eternal.
We extend our appreciation to Roberta Pennington, who cared for Rick during his final years. Her kindness and support allowed Rick to remain in his home until the end, and her friendship was a cherished gift.
In lieu of flowers, we invite you to raise a glass to celebrate his life, while in the company of good friends. As we say goodbye, let’s honor Rick’s memory with laughter instead of tears. May his next adventure be filled with good times and unexpected one-liners.
As a tribute, please consider watching the film A Christmas Story to honor Rick’s memory.
A celebration of Rick’s life will be held Saturday, July 20, 2024, from 2pm to 5pm at Brick House Blue, 213 S. Chillicothe Street, Plain City, OH 43064.
