Robert Atkinson

d. October 19, 2021

Robert “Bob” Atkinson passed away October 19, 2021, at the age of 70, surrounded by his loved ones after a long, courageous battle with Alzheimer’s. Bob grew up alongside his 5 brothers in Utica, OH where he graduated from high school in 1970. Soon after he decided to enlist in the United States Army to serve his country during the Vietnam War. He was honorably discharged from service in 1976. He then moved to Perrysville for an employment opportunity, where he met the love of his life, Patricia Hannan. They married April 5th 1980.

Bob was a devoted husband, dad, and papaw. He enjoyed watching his two daughters play sports when they were young. If he wasn’t at the softball field cheering them on, he could often be found in his garage tinkering with his Ford truck or lawn mower. Bob served his community as a volunteer firefighter and EMT. He was also a prankster, always pulling a prank on the unsuspecting boyfriends of his daughters. Bob was a loyal Cleveland sports fans, particularly the Indians and Browns—he never missed a game.

He is survived by Patricia, his loving wife of 41 years, his two daughters, Jennifer (and Anthony), and Bobbie (and Shane), his two granddaughters: Olivia and Natalia, along with many grand fur-kids, and his brother Ronald.

Throughout his life he was quick with a dad joke or a helping hand--often time both.  He never knew a stranger—just a friend he hadn’t met yet (who hadn’t heard his jokes). He loved old rock music (which he passed on to his girls) and danced to it with his granddaughters, whom he spent time with throughout his retirement--spoiling them every chance he had. Bob also had a sweet tooth, offering cookies to anyone that came to see him, as well as carrying around mints in his pocket for the on-the-go sugar fix.

He was preceded in death by his parents Harold and Agnes, and his brothers: Richard, Rodney, Russell, and Randal.

If you did not have the pleasure of being asked his favorite joke, here is your chance…Do you know why you can’t milk a mouse?

A celebration of life will be held for family and close friends. In lieu of flowers please send donations to: Team Atkinson for Walk to End Alzheimer’s , and Bellacare Hospice Celebrate Life Foundation
