Robert "Bob" Carl VonKennen

Robert “Bob” Carl VonKennen was born on August 20, 1952 and raised in Youngstown, Ohio with three brothers and one sister. He came from a proud German family, who frequented the Youngstown German Maennerchor Club. Bob graduated from Chaney High School in 1970 and Youngstown State University (Go Penguins!) with a BS degree in Mathematics & Computer Science. While there, he became a beloved bartender at Pogo’s Pub.

Bob married his beautiful wife, Rita, in 1976 and in 1977, they moved to Columbus to start his career in IT. He worked for many companies throughout the years, with the last being Columbus Door Sales, where he worked until his death.

In their younger days, Bob & Rita loved camping with friends and family, including trips to remote islands in Canada. In later years, Bob rarely left Columbus, believing all he ever needed and wanted could be found within I-270.

Bob was a very special, fun-loving guy who was always up for a party. He was a die-hard football fan, rooting for the Ohio State Buckeyes and the Cleveland Browns, through thick and thin. He was very handy and always had a project going. He was always there to help others on their home projects, building many decks over the years.

Bob was preceded in death by his parents, Howard and Florence, brothers Richard, Jerry and Bill VonKennen, sister-in-law Janet VonKennen and brother-in-law Ronald Rosko.

He is survived by his loving wife, Rita, and her brother Dennis (Sue) Rosko, his sister Linda (Jim) O’Brien, sister-in-law Pat Rosko, nephews Shaun (Danielle), Todd (Dot), Jimmy (McKenna), Bobby (Amy), Andrew, Christian, and nieces Jamie and Ricki, along with many great-nieces and great-nephews. He is also survived by many dear friends.

Bob died peacefully in his sleep on Sunday, August 13, 2023 at home under hospice care. He will be dearly missed by all who loved him.

Family will receive friends from 12:00p.m.-1:00p.m. FRIDAY, AUGUST 18, 2023 at the TIDD FAMILY FUNERAL HOME, 5265 Norwich Street, Hilliard, OH 43026 (614)-876-1722 where his Funeral Service will follow the visitation and begin at 1:00p.m. FRIDAY, with Reverend Phil Conrad, officiating. Burial service will be held at Galloway Cemetery, Galloway, OH immediately following the funeral.
