Robert Marvin Sr.

Robert E. Marvin Sr. age 84, of Hilliard, passed away Wednesday, February 4, 2015 at home with his devoted and loving wife Mary Lou. Bob was born in Columbus, February 23, 1930. He is preceded in death by his parents, O.G. and Edith Marvin. Bob graduated from Columbus South High School in 1948, where he was class president and valedictorian. Bob began attending The Ohio State University shortly thereafter, and graduated in 1993; his education was interrupted when he went to serve his country in Korea with the U.S. Army. During his service, Bob graduated from Officer's Candidate School, and received numerous service and leadership awards, including the Purple Heart. Bob began his career with the Farm Bureau Insurance Co., retiring 47 years later, long after it became Nationwide Insurance. Bob loved coaching Little League Baseball and Basketball and did so for many years. Bob was an avid golfer, and a die hard fan of the Buckeyes, Cleveland Browns and Cincinnati Reds. Bob was a member of the Hilliard Optimists Club, the Ohio State Alumni Association and American Legion Post 614. Bob was a 32nd Degree Mason of the Ralph Rickley Masonic Lodge. Bob was an amazing man who loved his family dearly. He was an adoring husband, devoted father, and doting grandfather. Bob always put others first, and left an impression on everyone he touched. His service to others is reflected by his years of volunteering with Meals on Wheels and as an usher at his church. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends. The family would like to thank Bob's friends and neighbors for their support and concern while he was ill. The family would also like to thank the Ohio Health Hospice team for all of the help, compassion and caring they provided to both Bob and Mary Lou. Leaving behind to cherish his memory, beloved wife of 64 years Mary Lou; son, Rob (Kelly) Marvin; daughter, Linda (Darrell) McGraw; grandchildren, Bobby & Brauch Marvin & Sarah and Logan (Bubba) McGraw. Friends may call Sunday, February 8, 2015 from 2 until 5 p.m. at the TIDD FAMILY FUNERAL HOME, 5265 Norwich St. in Hilliard. Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Monday, February 9, 2015 at the Hilliard United Methodist Church, 5445 Scioto Darby Rd. in Hilliard. Pastor Todd Anderson officiating. Interment Wesley Chapel Cemetery.
