Robert K. Peterson, “Bob”, age 79, of Hilliard, OH passed away at his home on Monday, October 31, 2022. Bob was born in Melrose Park, IL on January 18, 1943 to Robert E. and Helen Ruth (Wasserman) Peterson. He is survived by his children, Donna Stroud, David (Cyndy) Peterson and Lynn Peterson; his grandchildren, Jeremy (Sarah) Stroud, Kenny Peterson, Joshua Stroud, Samantha Peterson and Zach (Portia) Seckerson; his great grandchildren, Everett and Veda Seckerson; his siblings, Cheryl (Richard) Tucker, Sandra (Dave) Kuhlmann, Robin Peterson, Jeffrey (Brenda) Peterson; Uncle Kenny (Claire) Wasserman; sister-in-laws Lee Bolzenius and Pat (Tom) Sellers; friends Avis Smith and Herb Ringquist; and numerous nieces, nephews, family members and friends. Bob was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Meta Peterson, and companion Nancy Coakley.
Bob graduated from Proviso East High School in 1961 and attended DuPage College. He was stationed in Germany during the Vietnam war and served as a cryptographer in the U.S. Army. Bob loved math, numbers and his daily Sudoku puzzles. He worked the majority of his life and was an extremely hard worker, often working two jobs. Bob was a Jack of all Trades. He had too many jobs to mention all of them, but they included a computer programmer (Greyhound), a U.S. Postal Service carrier, truck mechanic (Rollins), truck driver (Brownberry), real estate agent, investor, and ultimately became an LPN (Red Cross) and a home health care nurse. Bob was a true handy man who could fix most anything by going to the library and reading a book or simply by trial and error (long before Google and YouTube existed).
In his earlier years Bob enjoyed membership in the Villa Park Jaycees and later the United Ford Owners Club and playing pinnacle at the Hilliard Senior Center. After finally retiring, Bob enjoyed cruising in his Ford Falcon and Mustang convertibles. He always had a large vegetable garden and enjoyed working in his yard. Bob was a die-hard Green Bay Packers fan and very patriotic, often favoring the underdog and he enjoyed making sure his friends and family heard his “daily joke”. Bob loved his family dearly and has left so many memories. As Bob’s proudly worn t-shirt stated, “The Man, The Myth, The Legend”.
