Robert Paul Root – Devoted Husband, Father, and Dzia Dzia
Robert “Bob” Paul Root passed away peacefully at his residence in Powell, Ohio on October 16, 2014 at 6:33 PM at the age of 66. Cause of death was cancer.
Bob was born on May 18, 1948 in Erie, Pennsylvania to Dorothy and Robert Root and was the older brother of two siblings, Carol Madurski and Doug Root. After attending Cathedral Prep, Bob graduated from Gannon University with a B.S. in Electrical Engineering. He married Marilyn Louise Blossey on July 7, 1973 at Saint George Church in Erie, Pennsylvania. After marriage, Bob and Marilyn moved briefly to Cleveland and finally settled in Columbus, Ohio. In his younger years, he was a professional musician, playing the saxophone and clarinet. As an adult, Bob worked as a Software Developer for CompuServe, WorldCom, MCI, and retired from Verizon Business. A devoted Catholic, Bob was a member of Saint Peter’s Church in Columbus, Ohio. A lover of life and new experiences, Bob enjoyed traveling with his wife, visiting dozens of places near and far. Bob was a skilled ballroom dancer and enjoyed attending dances with his wife as well as teaching. He also loved to golf (with a 10 handicap). Bob had a wonderful sense of humor, a knack for telling great stories, and the uncanny ability to make friends, young and old, wherever he went. In addition, Bob was an avid Buckeye and showed great loyalty to The Ohio State University. Go Bucks!
Bob is survived by his loving wife, Marilyn, of Powell, Ohio, daughters Jennifer Ballard of Cincinnati, wife of Mike Ballard, and Stephanie Mathews of Columbus, wife of Justin Mathews, and son, Stephen Root of San Diego. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Audrey and Evan Ballard and Finley Mathews as well as his mother, Dorothy Root of Erie, sister, Carol Madurski of Erie, and brother, Doug Root of Erie.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, October 21, 2014 from 3-6 PM with Memorial Service directly following from 6-7 PM at Tidd Funeral Home, 5265 Norwich Street, Hilliard, OH 43026.
